University of Maryland Stands Out with the Pop Up Cube
Services: Higher Education
After combing the Internet for holiday card inspiration, the team at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business happened upon Structural Graphics’s designs through one site in particular: Pinterest.
“We knew we wanted to create a three-dimensional piece,” said Jessica Davies, the school’s executive director of constituent relations. “As we narrowed the search, so many of the ideas we really liked were Structural Graphics products. The more we looked at it, the more we liked that we could just upload the artwork and SG had all the printing and die cuts already set, the products were unique and could be customized, and the production schedule fit in our timeline. It was a win-win from the start.”
The team decided to use the 3” Pop Up Cube for their holiday card. According to Jessica, the Structural Graphics design is “unique and really stands out among all the other flat cards people recieve this time of year.” However, before choosing to go with the design they did, the team at the Robert H. Smith School of Business nearly went a size up - to the 4” cube.
“The sample pack is probably one of the best things SG did for us during this process,” Jessica said. “Initially we were determined to get the 4” cube, but after receiving the samples we switched to the 3” Pop Up Cube mailer. The ability to see finished pieces and feel the paper was a game changer!”
From there, the school’s designer (along with Jessica) spoke directly with members of the Structural Graphics team to ensure that their direct mail piece would turn out just the way they envisioned. Interestingly enough, the card was intentionally created so as not to be holiday-specific, making this as much a promotional piece as a holiday greeting.
“The cube and mailer exceeded our expectations! We think this is really unique and are thankful for the support and encouragement of the SG team throughout the process,” Jessica said. “We hope people will keep it on their desks or shelves for months to come.”
